What we do know about stress is that it's negative effects on our emotional and physical systems is cumulative. Prolonged chronic stress wears down our immune system causing us to be more vulnerable to illnesses. It affects our cardiovascular system as well as aging. It is a factor even in infertility. The informed choices we make in the moment to not only understand the complexity of the stress response in our system but to also have at hand ideal coping strategies allow us to live a more healthy life both physically and emotionally. And too...the effect of effective management of stress can be cumulative in a positive sense.
