Managing Stress

Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one principle: Some things are within our control, and some things are not. It is only after you have faced up to this fundamental rule and learned to distinguish between what you can and can't control that inner tranquility and outer effectiveness becomes possible.

Stress Management

In this present time, everyone is aware of stress. Our most recent past contained the fears of Terrorism and now it's the economy. Financial stress and sex are the two main reasons relationships fail to make it. People find themselves worried and anxious...depressed too. There is a great need to have and know the skills to manage this stress. Theses are the reasons mastering stress management is no longer something to think about, but, now, essential to daily life.

Everyday we encounter situations and events, especially in this day and time, that tax our resources to one degree of another. In order the maintain both physical and emotional health, we need to develop healthy ways to rid ourselves of tension and stress related symptoms . Healthy ways do not include drinking too much, overeating, risky behavior, or recreational drugs. Learning about stress , and how it affects our bodies is essential in better stress management.

Without developing these skills, our bodies contain built up tension, which over a period of weeks and months and years will cause us to move into a state of perpetual state of chronic hyperarousal which we become accustomed to as "normal". This chronic stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system can lead to long-term disregulation resulting in health problems such as high blood pressure, digestive problems, cardiac arrhythmias, chronic headaches, and certainly sleep disorders which has been recently reported in the news.

It has to be emphasized here that a certain amount of stress in life is essential and healthy. But, most of us allow that stress to gravitate into every part of our existence and expand to the point that we are simply in "burn-out". This is not necessary and let it be known here, your stress can be effectively managed so that you maintain your health, well-being and stamina.
